Our Hobby Farm

A little over a year ago, we bought a run down hobby farm 35 miles out of Roseau.  It is 80 acres in Northern Minnesota, and it has been a bugger since day one.  On it rests a tiny farmhouse built in 1916, two barns, a coop, two smaller sheds, a garage and a large machine shed.

We renovated the existing farmhouse and we are anxiously hoping to add the first addition this coming Spring.  Until then, and up until now, we have been residing in a 900-some square foot home.  In a way it is nice because I never lose any kids.  In New York City, this would probably be considered pretty large.

Here with five people and all their stuff, I feel like the old lady who lived in a shoe.

We have nine naughty hens, a rooster, a duck named "Private" (practice yelling it like you are a drill sergeant), three pigs and two cats.  We are also bombarded by unwelcome wildlife on a daily basis, including my arch nemesis.... Wilifred the Woodchuck.  That snarly bugger has been outsmarting me for over a year now.  I will conquer.

As we continue to make improvements around here... I will post them.  I will post them mostly because I will be fighting not to frame pictures of the projects!  There is something about knowing you want to fix something up, and then having to sit around and stare at it for years.  It will definitely deserve some flaunting!
