All three of my children have various Special Needs. Gage has something that is called Sensory Processing Disorder. He is now down to Occupational Therapy once a week, and his needs are one of the main reasons we homeschool.
Bo and Cote both have Global Developmental Delays. This means that they both have profound physical, cognitive and intellectual (In the old days, this was called Mental Retardation. We, as well as most other parents and government agencies, no longer use this term) disablities. They also have vision impairment and various forms of Sensory Processing Disorder.
Bo is now five and can walk with assistance, crawl and scoot around on his rear. He cannot talk, but he has other ways of communicating some of his needs to me. I have learned some of his cues and we work on language and communication every day.
Cote is now four and she can sit on her own and army crawl to where she wants to go. She can say Dada and no, and it is very easy to read her body cues. She can also make the sign for "all done".
I write a lot about Special Needs. I do it not only to help inform others of what it is like "behind the scenes", but also because it gets incredibly daunting at times to be a parent to three such intense children. I need to pour out the stress sometimes and in the past, my blog has been the perfect place for it.
