Monday Afternoon

So after getting done at Holiday (from which I loaded up on energy drinks and Wasabi/Soy Almonds), we head over to the Rehabilitation Center attached to the clinic. We have 3 minutes to spare to I try to pound back as much of the energy drink as I possibly can. At this point in the day, I am crashing hard. Uff. So Melissa and I get out and begin fighting with my van. Goldie has decided that when it's cold out, the kiddo's need to stay in their seats. We conquer and head inside, in time to see Miss Danyelle's smiley face to greet us!!! This chick has the best sense of humor and I look forward to seeing her especially when I am exhausted because I always end up laughing my rear off. Also, another thing I love about the therapy department is how cute everyone dresses... it sort of reminds me I need to kick up my game a bit.

First Bo goes with Melissa and one of his Physical Therapists (name withheld), and Cote comes with Merri her Occupational Therapist and myself. Merri is working with Cote, and I am chatting her ear clean off (this is my social time, and the therapists are always good sports about it) and all of a sudden I feel really cruddy. I think I may have said the same sentence to Merri three times. I think about asking her, but realize that even thinking I did it, was bad enough. That's when I realize I am having an extremely low blood sugar. Now mind you I have been dieting so to speak. I have been cutting out the sweets for a while now and just lowering the amount of simple carbs I eat. I did not cut out carbs all together, just the sweet and white ones. Great... a low blood sugar. Monday Fail.

So I go to grab Melissa to see if she has any treats in her purse... lol. She does not, but walks me down to the vending machine and gets me a juice and the most decadent, heavenly bar I have ever tasted. It was this Betty Crocker Turtle bar... and oh man. Naughty.

So once I get done inhaling the bar... the kids are ready to swap therapists. All goes well after another 30 minutes and it is time to leave. We head back out into the waiting room and it is PACKED! Oh joy. People staring to stare at us. Let me tell you, people LOVE to stare at us. Sometimes they absolutely pretend they don't see us. Sometimes they make a "clucking" noise with their tongues, sometimes there are people that shake their heads "no"... then again we also have the sweeties that fawn over the kids. coo at them, complement their supreme cuteness! Over the years, I have just gotten on high alert. My guard goes straight up, but I am working on that.

We get everyone loaded in the van, and Bo instantly passes out. Cote isn't quite as tired because she slept on the way TO therapy. We get to Mel's place and My husband is waiting there to see me! He helps Melissa and I bring the kids and all our luggage in and I mess with him a it and get my kisses and I am off to grab a couple of groceries and get Gage. I have 10 minutes to be in the store, so I walk out with about 10 minutes worth of groceries. I blast over to the school and park in a way that I feel guilty for every time. I walk to his classroom and I am there just in time to see all those tiny faces lining up to catch the bus. Gage of course see's me and does a basic tailspin, lol. I use my "calming voice" and it only takes about a dozen times to get him to get his coat on lol. After about 15 minutes or so, we are finally on our way out to the van.

We get loaded, I get Gage some snacks and we head back over to Melissa's to get Bo and Cote again. I am completely drained from the awfulness from earlier. I havent felt that cruddy in a very long time. We get to Mel's and I run in to get The Little's. Bo is still passed out and throws a little mini tantrum when we go to get his coat on. Mel helps me get the kids loaded and away we gooooo......

* there is some pics of us in the van...
-the ones of the kids are from after school. There is garbage and snacks and junk everywhere. I thought about photo-shopping it out, lol, but this week is about honesty. I clean the van throughout the week, and no matter how much or often I clean it, it still looks like a garbage dump. Housekeeping Fail.

-there is also some picks of all of us in the van. The
entire time Melissa was taking the pics, Gage was in the back screaming for me to move so he could be in it.... I just replied with a simple, "This aint about you, Son". :)

  1. Even after a stop at Holiday we made it to therapy on time, which is an amazing feat any day, but especially on a Monday. At this point I have forgotten how bad things went at lunch and am ready for the next task with the Burr kids. After Rachel's van finally decides to open it's doors and let us get the kids out I throw my huge camera bag in my purse and throw the bulky mess over my shoulder. I hoist Bo (who may weigh 30 lbs by scale but feels more like 60) onto my hip, tuck a gatorade into the crook of my arm and grab the Bilibo seat with my other hand. Pack Mule! Rachel grabs Cote and off we go into therapy...Team Burr! After getting permission to photograph and share the day's experience I am finally settled into PT with Bo watching with amazement as he works his little butt off. His walking gets better every day and I am so glad I get to witness his little victories. I feel like I must have the most fulfilling job on earth. Then it happened: emergency scenario number 2 of the day. Rachel comes into the room looking like she is about to pass out. Fear strikes...I have seen her have seizures that started like this. It's been awhile since it has happened but it still scares me. I almost always have a granola bar in my purse for Gage but today I have none. I feel awful. I am prepared to jog up to the vending machine in the ER and fill my purse with overpriced snacks so this never happens again. I tell myself I am probably over-reacting, so I get back to my calm place and go get an Orange Juice and a Turtle bar...it works! With that crisis over it's time to get back to work with the kids, finish up therapy, and get out of town. Rachel has to pick up Gage and run to the store so the Littles get to hang with me at my house. Bo is passed out and Cote is wide awake so I get to give her an applesauce and give her some of that Gatorade. The applesauce went pretty good; the Gatorade, not so much. She spit that right back out every time. Later Rachel told me that she really doesn't like it...Thanks for the head's up Rachel! Hahaha. At this point I should have been prepared to be spit on no matter what I was trying to give her. With that done Rachel is back and it's time to load up the kids and take some end of the day photos for this week's open and honest blog. Gage is hamming it up for the camera, Cote is indifferent to my presence, and Bo is still mad we woke him up and drug him out in the cold. Rachel is looking tired after a long day but trying to keep her chin up. My day with them has ended but she has the whole night ahead of her. I get into my house wishing it was bedtime...I'm spent and I have a whole night ahead of me too.
